Albany ACADEMY: Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Albany Academy grants the privilege of Pupils, Staff and Visitors using their personal mobile devices of their choosing to access our internet. Albany Academy reserves the right to revoke this privilege if users do not abide by the policies and procedures outlined below.

ACCEPTABLE Use

  • Users of the BYOD Wireless Network are blocked from accessing certain websites while connected to the BYOD Wireless Network at the discretion of Albany ICT Services. If you require a website unblocking, then please contact Albany ICT Services directly.
  • For my professional and personal safety:
    • I understand that the school will monitor my use of the BYOD Wireless Network
    • I understand that my access to the BYOD Wireless Network could be withdrawn at any time without notice.
    • I understand that the school ICT systems are primarily intended for educational and professional use and that I will only use my access for such use only.
    • I will not disclose the AlbanyBYOD details to anyone else.
    • I will immediately report anything illegal, inappropriate, harmful, or indecent material that I become aware of, to Albany ICT Services.
    • I understand that if I fail to comply with this Acceptable Use Policy Agreement, I could be subject to further action by Albany Academy.  This could include, in the event of illegal activities, the involvement of the police. 
  • While using the BYOD Wireless Network:
    • I will not attempt to access unauthorised services either on the Albany Academy network infrastructure or on the public internet.
    • I will not engage in any on-line activity whilst using the Albany BYOD Wireless Network may compromise my professional responsibilities or bring the Academy into disrepute.
  • Devices may not be used at any time to:
    • Store or transmit illicit materials
    • Harass others
    • Engage in outside business activities

 

Devices and Support

  • Smartphones including iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows phones are allowed.
  • Tablets including iPad and Android are allowed.
  • Laptops are allowed with proper anti-virus and anti-malware software installed.
  • Connectivity issues are supported by Albany ICT Services; whereas BYOD Wireless users should contact the device manufacturer or their carrier for operating system or hardware-related issues.

 

Risks/Liabilities/Disclaimers

  • I will immediately report anything illegal, inappropriate, harmful, or indecent material that I become aware of, to Albany ICT Services.
  • Albany Academy reserves the right to disconnect devices or disable services without notification.
  • As a user of the BYOD Wireless Network, you are expected to use your device(s) in an ethical manner at all times and adhere to the BYOD Acceptable Use Policy as outlined above.
  • As a user of the BYOD Wireless Network, you are personally liable for all costs associated with your device.
  • By connecting to the BYOD Wireless Network, you will assume full liability for risks including, but not limited to, the partial or complete loss of data contained on the device due to an operating system crash, errors, bugs, viruses, malware, and/or other software or hardware failures, or programming errors that render the device unusable. Albany Academy and Albany ICT Services are not liable for any loss or errors in personal data or any hardware issues while using the BYOD Wireless Network.
  • I understand that if I fail to comply with this Acceptable Use Policy Agreement, I could be subject to further action by Albany Academy.  This could include, in the event of illegal activities, the involvement of the police.
