Happy Start to life at Albany for the New Year 7’s
New Year 7 pupils at Albany Academy have enjoyed a smooth transition from primary school. The new intake, Albany’s largest for a number of years, have settled into life at the school and have excelled at a team building trip to the Anderton Centre.
All new Year 7 pupils got the chance to learn new skills at the Anderton Centre by taking part in a wide variety of activities. Challenges such as orienteering, abseiling, low ropes and a wide range of team building skills were all designed to allow the new pupils to interact with their peers.
The activities were enjoyed by all the pupils and it was clear that the confidence of the pupils grew throughout their visit. Year 7 Transitional Manager, Miss Birchall said, “It was a fantastic two days at the Anderton Centre. Pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I think it was a great way for Year 7’s to begin their journey here at Albany.”
The pupils have also had chance to give feedback to staff about how they have found their first two weeks in secondary school. The feedback the school received from this was overwhelmingly positive with pupils saying, “Albany is great! The school is great for all kinds of people and there are some really good role models.” The feedback also highlighted how quickly friendships have been formed amongst the Year 7 cohort with many pupils commenting on this, including saying, “I feel I have settled in really well. I like the fact that I have made friends already.”
The Anderton Centre visit is just part of a range of opportunities that the new Year 7 pupils will experience during their first year at Albany Academy.
