Albany Academy have been chosen as ‘Secondary School of the Year’ at the annual Chorley Sports Awards. The popular school, based on Bolton road scooped the award at the glitzy awards ceremony held at Chorley Town hall.
Albany were delighted to collect the award which recognises the hard work that the schools PE department does to provide opportunities for Albany students to take part in high quality sport. The award also recognised the strong links to local community sports clubs that Albany has created. These links include sports clubs such as Jennings Boxing Gym and Chorley Panthers Rugby League team.
In the last academic year alone Albany provided its students with the opportunity to take part in over 15 different extra-curricular sports clubs and the students often compete well above their expected level as they compete with larger schools from across Lancashire.
Head of PE, Mr Peacock, said, “The department are delighted to receive this award in recognition of the many hours of hard work, performances and the resulting achievements. The department are very proud of all Albany students not least the 100% pass rate achieved by the GCSE PE groups in the 2016 examinations.”
Headteacher, Mr Mayland, added “The PE staff at Albany Academy are excellent and work incredibly hard to help develop our talented students and provide them with somany sporting opportunities. This award is suitable recognition for the efforts that all our students and staff put in on the sports field.”
