Year 7 and 8 students from Albany Academy took part in the district Table Tennis competition in March and produced some stunning displays. The annual competition brings together the most talented Table Tennis players from across Chorley to compete to be crowned as the best school team in the district. The Albany team once again excelled itself.
Each team had four team members. Each member of the team was seeded and played against opposing seeds from other teams. The two Albany boys’ teams battled hard in a competitive 8 team tournament and produced some wonderful individual performances. The girls’ team produced similarly strong performances with one of the girls’ teams becoming the eventual winners in their competition. The four players Charlotte Davenport, Milly Lever, Yannawadi (Beam) and Ellena Draper have been practicing within their regular PE lessons and were overwhelmed at winning the competition.
The victorious girls team now go on to represent Chorley in the level 3 regional competition held in Garstang in May. Girls PE teacher Mrs Milburn, who has been coaching the girls said, “I am so proud of our year 8 girls. They played brilliantly. Table Tennis is a new activity for the girls in Key Stage three and they have really enjoyed it. I would like to wish the girls the best of luck when they go to the regional tournament in May representing Chorley.”
