Year 10 students were given an excellent opportunity to sample courses which are on offer at Wigan & Leigh College last week.
Several students visited the Pagefield Site Campus to sample a range of subjects and decide if a career in construction or engineering could be for them. The centre of excellence for Engineering is an exceptional learning facility for aspiring engineers and our students could not believe they got the opportunity to work in the workshops and highly specialised labs.
Other Year 10s sampled lessons at the Parsons Walk Campus. All the courses provided students with an insight of what college life could offer them and best learning opportunities for all.
Shirley Walmsley, who leads on careers advice said, “The day had been a very worthwhile experience for all who were involved, and as a result many of our students are now considering a future at Wigan and Leigh College”.
Wigan and Leigh staff were equally impressed. Megan Spencer, who organised the visit, added, “Students have been a true credit to Albany Academy and a pleasure to work with today. Our staff have commented on their positive attitude to learning, enthusiasm, manners, behaviour, engagement and their willingness to embrace all new subjects, skills and challenges set before them. An all-round positive day. Working with the staff and students from Albany Academy is always my pleasure and I look for to continuing this wonderful school link”.
