Year 7 and 8 students from Albany Academy took part in the district Table Tennis competition in March and produced some stunning displays. The annual competition brings together the most talented Table Tennis players from across Chorley to compete to be crowned as the best school team in the district. The Albany team once again excelled itself.
Three talented swimmers from Albany once again shone in the pool. Isaac Brennand, Chloe Cottam and Elizabeth Woodcock produced stunning performances in the inter-counties championships, held at the Manchester Aquatics Centre. The competition which is held over two weekends brings together some of the top young swimmers from across the region.
For the second time this term our boys basketball teams have been leading the way in Chorley. This time it was the turn of the Year 8 boys team who were crowned district champions at a tournament on Wednesday 8th February. Their performance was even more impressive as they won the competition without conceding a single point.
The Albany Year 11 boys’ basketball team were crowned district champions this term. The team of nine beat all before them to claim the trophy. They are also competing on two fronts as they are in a strong position to make the semi-finals of the Lancashire cup as they have won all four of their opening group fixtures with one left to play.
Two more students from Albany have been making a splash in the sporting world this term. On the back of students success in boardercross, athletics, dance and synchronised swimming, students have also been making a splash in the pool. Isaac Brennand (Year 9) and Piper Stevens (Year 8) have seen their hard work pay off achieving podium finishes in two major swimming events.
