The Albany Year 11 boys’ basketball team were crowned district champions this term. The team of nine beat all before them to claim the trophy. They are also competing on two fronts as they are in a strong position to make the semi-finals of the Lancashire cup as they have won all four of their opening group fixtures with one left to play.
Joseph Croft a Year 11 student from Albany Academy has seen his work published in a national magazine. The keen biker produced a review of the north west, mobile chaos Kamakazi cave run bike rally. This article impressed the editors of 100% Biker so much that they produced a double page spread of his work.
Year 11 GCSE Catering students from Albany Academy took part in an Catering event organised by Runshaw College at their main campus on Langdale road Leyland. The aim of the event was to give the catering students an opportunity to work in a working kitchen. The event also gave them an insight into the BTEC courses available and their entry requirements.
Albany Academy Year 11 students took part in a two day Geography Field trip to Hothersall Lodge on the 26th and 27th of September, with a second group attending on the 4th and 5th October. The purpose of the visit was for the students to collect data ahead of their GCSE controlled assessment. The students studied the River Wyre from its source downstream as far as St Michael’s. They noted the changes to the channel as a river moves downstream, including its width, depth, and velocity.
Fifteen Year 11 students from Albany Academy enjoyed a fantastic careers morning at Chorley town hall. The event organised by Chorley Council was designed to introduce young people to colleges, business and training providers who could help guide them towards achieving a successful career in the world of work upon leaving secondary education.
Albany Academy opened its doors to students, family members and the local community for their 2016 GCSE Art and Photography exhibition. The event was hugely popular with displays of a wide variety of art, photography and resistant materials work produced by students from the Year 11 GCSE Technology Faculty.
