Inside the classroom

Our aim is simple - to develop amazing learners.

Our curriculum is simple, based on clear evidence, and is uncompromising in its support and ambition for all our students.

We believe every child is capable of high performance.

Everything we do is focussed on helping students become the best they can be.

We want our students to develop into confident learners while at school, and when they leave us go on to become effective and happy employees, and ultimately become the leaders of the future. All of this is underpinned by the basis of their daily behaviours. In short we support them to become amazing leaders, amazing employees, amazing learners and ultimately, amazing people.

Our amazing behaviours are based on research from Professor Deborah Eyre and Dr Steve Peters amongst others.

We develop amazing people.

At Albany Academy, we believe that everyone is capable of being an Amazing Person. We use the work of Dr Steve Peters to help children develop into the version of themselves that they want to be. A version who is kind, shares, talks about their feelings, shows good manners and tries new things.

We develop amazing learners.

At Albany Academy, our staff are developing all pupils into ‘High Performance Learners.’ This means that we are developing all of our pupils to be the best that they can be to achieve their potential, fulfil their aspirations and be ready to take on the challenges that the real world presents when they leave us at the end of year 11.

We teach amazing subjects.

  • Albany aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the social and academic needs of our students.

  • At KS3 students study a broad and challenging curriculum, including learning two foreign languages.

  • At Key Stage 4 all students study our core of maths, English and science and Personal Wellbeing, alongside their GCSE options

At Albany, we believe that high quality, inclusive teaching underpins achievement for all children, irrespective of their needs. This includes all students with special educational needs and disabilities.

We are inclusive.

Relationships and Sex Education

The aims of relationships and sex education (RSE) at Albany are to:

  • Provide a framework in which sensitive discussions can take place

  • Prepare pupils for puberty, and give them an understanding of sexual development and the importance of health and hygiene

  • Help pupils develop feelings of self-respect, confidence and empathy Create a positive culture around issues of sexuality and relationships
Teach pupils the correct vocabulary to describe themselves and their bodies

RSE is about the emotional, social and cultural development of pupils, and involves learning about relationships, sexual health, sexuality, healthy lifestyles, diversity and personal identity.

RSE involves a combination of sharing information, and exploring issues and values. RSE is not about the promotion of sexual activity.

More information about RSE, including Parents’ right to withdraw their child is available in our RSE policy.
