Beyond the classroom

Our curriculum goes beyond the classroom.

Part of our purpose is to ensure students start to prepare for an amazing career.

Our careers team at Albany aims to develop student employability skills, resilience and career management skills and inform about local, national and international labour market information. We guide our students in developing career ideas and aspirations. We educate all students on the complete spectrum of post-16 pathways and prepare them for a successful post-16 transition.

Leadership

We want our students to develop into leaders of the future. That is why we equip them with the skills and opportunities to lead today.

At Albany Academy we recognise the importance of creating opportunities for our students to grow and develop as happy, healthy young people. Our Amazing Leaders program embeds leadership within our curriculum and enhances the opportunities for students to steer their own leadership journey and take charge of the direction of their Amazing Leader journey.

The awards program has three stages: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level of the award is designed to enable your child to develop their leadership skills, through a range of activities and the completion of an evidence portfolio.

All students at Albany Academy are invited to complete their Amazing Leader Awards, regardless of whether they hold a “leadership” position within school. This is because we recognise that leadership takes on many forms and not all leaders, lead from the front.

Wider opportunities

We enrich our curriculum with wider opportunities for students to choose from. These are designed to provide opportunities to for students to take risks and learn new things which they may not otherwise have the opportunity for. These include: Bikeability; Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme; learning to ski; charitable works; trips abroad; music tuition.

Our students want to help and support each other. Trained mentors collaborate with their peers to support them.
