We develop amazing employees.
We recognise our role in helping students prepare for college and a career. We develop their employment skills to help them become amazing employees.
The Gatsby Benchmarks are a framework of 8 guidelines that define the best careers provision.
-
A STABLE CAREERS PROGRAMME
We have an embedded programme of careers education and guidance that is known and understood by pupils, teachers, governors and employers. We intend to evaluate it using systematic feedback from students, teachers, employers and parents.
-
LEARNING FROM CAREER AND LABOUR MARKET INFORMATION
We ensure every pupil, and their parents, should have access to good quality information about future study options and labour market opportunities.
-
ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF EACH STUDENT
We offer advice and support that is tailored to the needs of each pupil. We keep good records of pupils and their destinations after school. We intend to maintain accurate data for each pupil on their destinations for 3 years after they leave school.
-
LINKING CURRICULUM LEARNING TO CAREERS
We deliver careers and enterprise education that is part of and included in a pupil's standard lessons, linking curriculum to real-world career paths.
-
ENCOUNTERS WITH EMPLOYERS AND EMPLOYEES
We ensure pupils have encounters with employers and employees that result in a better understanding of the workplace and the potential career paths open to them.
-
EXPERIENCES OF WORKPLACES
We know it is important for pupils to experience the workplace environment to understand the context in which they could one day be working.
-
ENCOUNTERS WITH FURTHER AND HIGHER EDUCATION
We offer careers provision that covers further education as well as potential professions. Pupils have encounters with these organisations whilst at school. We also cover higher education..
-
PERSONAL GUIDANCE
We give every student opportunities for guidance interviews. We intend to offer interviews with a career adviser, who could be internal or external, provided they are trained to an appropriate level.
Gatsby Benchmarks
We are incredibly pleased to share with you that we have met 100% of our Gatsby Benchmarks.

Student Support.
-
Careers Leaders.
Our student careers will take on a supportive and evaluative role within their key stage. They will assist in the continued development of the careers programme at Albany, and will also become careers champions within their year group.
-
Year 9 Options.
During Year 9 students at Albany receive guidance and support to prepare them for their GCSE option choices in KS4 through their Life Studies lessons.
To help our students make informed choices they are given the opportunity to:
Use CASCAiD Kudos to learn about the numerous pathways available to them. They are able to explore routes that include further education, higher education, and apprenticeships. The breadth of information available in Kudos ultimately helps students navigate a complex academic and career landscape.
Discuss the Key Stage 4 Options booklet and complete a trial run and a mock options form.
Receive ‘next steps’ information from Faculty leads through subject-specific presentations.
Attend an Options Information Evening which is supported by local 6th form colleges.
Access the National Careers Service
Each student has a formal options interview with a member of SLT/KS Manager/PO/SENCO.
Explore Apprenticeships.
-
Post 16.
Planning your next steps is a really exciting, but sometimes daunting prospect. There is a lot to consider and there seems to be an overwhelming number of choices available to you.
We will guide you through the choices that lay ahead of you, whether that be continuing in full-time education at a school sixth form or college, or taking up an apprenticeship, or working full-time with part-time training at college.
To help our students make informed choices they are given opportunity to:
visit local sixth form colleges on ‘Sampling Days’.
receive presentations from the majority of sixth form colleges in the area.
use Unifrog to explore how their interests lead to different education and pathways and to compare every opportunity available to them.
be aware of local, national and international Labour Market Information (LMI).
receive good quality ‘next steps’ education from tutors and teachers who specialise in post-16 choices.
-
Provider Access Policy.
This policy statement sets out our arrangements for managing the access of providers to give students advice about the education or training offer.
-
Impact Statement.
The impact statement summaries what has been achieved. This will be reviewed and updated at least every 3 years.
Employer Partners
We have developed some great relationships with local and national employers, providers and charities over the years.
