Maths

We aim to develop amazing mathematicians who approach problems logically and critically.

We study the Pearson GCSE.

See below for more information about what students learn from Years 7 to 11.

We believe that all students can achieve in maths.

Mathematics is a highly interconnected discipline that gives us the ability to reason and reach certainty. It is through making these connections that we are able to facilitate ‘light bulb’ moments and the joy of achievement.

Believing in the individual strengths and unique talents of our pupils, we aid the journey of mathematical understanding and fluency. Pupils are encouraged to develop key skills, analyse and reason logically to enable them to solve problems.

We establish an environment of welcome, where all pupils have the freedom to express their mathematical ideas and make mistakes until they master a new concept. We endeavour to provide enrichment activities outside of the classroom to further enhance the pupils’ love of maths.

In Years 7, 8 and 9, students are taught within their tutor groups for seven hours a fortnight. In Years 10 and 11, students are taught in mixed‑ability classes for nine hours a fortnight, which are reviewed regularly to ensure they continue to meet the needs of the cohort.

Students will be entered for either the Foundation or Higher tier following their mock examinations in Year 11.
